The Power of Math

by John Gilmar Delgado

Mathematics plays a very important role in high school education. Even though many of us would agree math is not such an interesting subject, its value has a big impact to human development. How do you perceive the relevance of studying Math as a student?
“Math is just a part of my studies that needs to focus on”, says Patrick Esguerra, a junior student from section Argon. “It also helps me on how to compute my daily budget.” John Ruiz, also from section Argon, shares “Math is one of the most challenging subject. It is always at hand as we count, compute, and write. “
I agree with them. Other fields of discipline need mathematical applications. In chemistry, units of measures like grams, liter, and centimeters, which are mathematically allied, are used to find the characteristics of the object being studied or experimented. We also use numbers as we count the dance steps, approximate the remaining space in our memory card, determine the speed of our computer, et cetera.
Math is not just a subject. It is our mentor that makes us alert and it refuses us from being confused on real life problems. It is a good relief to solve problems and live a happy life. A famous quote says, “The essence of Mathematics is to make complicated things simple, not to make simple things complicated.” We are only making math a complicated one but in reality, it is not. It just depends on how we deal with it that causes tricky situation.
To excel in math, love math. Let’s be like those valedictorians who valued mathematics. Be inspired by those math wizards who strive to learn more and be excellent on it. It is a great thing to hear from our friends or classmates that they admire you because they see your eagerness to study mathematics. It doesn’t matter how fast or slow you pick up the lesson but what matters is your desire to become skilled on analyzing and solving math problems. So, what are you waiting for? Grab a math book and start studying math right now!
